Development of a Website for the South Australian Oyster Industry: 2005

Project:
Lift the profile and commence marketing the South Australian Oyster Industry.

Project Leader:
Linda Hank, South Australian Oyster Farmer

Aim:
Create a brand and develop and implement a website to profile the SA Oyster Industry and its product.

Background:
The South Australian Oyster Industry has a reputation for producing some of the best quality oysters in Australia.  During 2005 the industry was facing strong competition in the marketplace and was looking for ways of better profiling its product.

Approach:
Contacted four graphic designers to gain quotes, information about the design process and time required.

Identified a preferred website builder and graphic designer.

Approached the industry association (SA Oyster Growers Association) and its research body (SA Oyster Research Council) sought support for her concept.

Funds and other support was sought and received from the Eyre Peninsula Regional Development Board, the industry organisations.

Information was collected and collated and the specific content for a website developed in consultation with the industry association to ensure support.

Challenges:
Lack of any knowledge or experience in website design or marketing.
Lack of confidence to undertake a project outside of my experience.

Outcomes:
An operational website launched one year after completion of the leadership program.
