National Program

Advance in Dairy

The National Advance in Dairy Leadership Development Program equips participants to effectively represent their industry at a state and national level.

It is a six month Program which includes two residential skill sessions of three and two days respectively, conducted in Melbourne and Canberra.

In between the sessions participants are resourced to design and implement an industry project which has national implications and aims to result in a model for use by others. Project outcomes are presented to mentors and industry, business, community and political leaders at the final session in Canberra.

Participants are supported by facilitators, mentors and industry leaders throughout the Program.

The Program focuses on introducing the participants to the industry issues and structures at a state and national level through;

  • exposure to current industry leaders through the industry/business dinners,
  • informative panel sessions,
  • the mentoring role that industry/business leaders participate in specifically designed to support participants for the duration of the Program and beyond.

The specific sessions are designed to focus on the skills and knowledge required to make a difference in relation to the industry issues and these include;

  • speaking in public for maximum impact,
  • developing a vision for the industry,
  • project planning,
  • team leadership,
  • working as a team to consult consumers and develop a strategy for action,
  • chairing meetings to achieve shared outcomes,
  • lobbying for change,

“I feel that I got an enormous amount from the program rather than just learning, I grew. I also feel I achieved my aim of learning skills to work more effectively with people and rather than my enthusiasm scaring people off I believe I now have the skills to gain their cooperation and have a way forward.”
