National Program
Advance in Seafood
The National Advance in Seafood Leadership Development Program equips participants to effectively represent their industry at a state and national level.
It is a six month Program which includes three residential skill sessions of three, two and three days respectively. The first session varies in its location. The second session is conducted in Sydney and the final session in Canberra.
In between the sessions participants are resourced to design and implement an industry project which has national implications and aims to result in a model for use by others. Project outcomes are presented to mentors and industry, business, community and political leaders at the final session in Canberra.
Participants are supported by facilitators, mentors and industry leaders throughout the Program.
The Program focuses on introducing the participants to the industry issues and structures at a state and national level through;
- exposure to current industry leaders through the industry/business dinners (five in total),
- informative panel sessions (two in total),
- the mentoring role that industry/business leaders participate in specifically designed to support participants for the duration of the Program and beyond.
The specific sessions are designed to focus on the skills and knowledge required to make a difference in relation to the industry issues and these include;
- speaking in public for maximum impact,
- developing a vision for the industry,
- project planning,
- team leadership,
- working as a team to consult consumers and develop a strategy for action,
- chairing meetings to achieve shared outcomes,
- lobbying for change,
- learning partnerships, and
- exploring national and international industry issues with industry and political leaders.
Advance in Seafood is a national Program targeted at representatives of all sectors, service providers and states involved in the seafood industry to enable a whole of industry perspective.
State Program
Impact on Seafood
The State Impact on Seafood Leadership Training Program equips participants with the skills, knowledge and confidence to effectively participate at an individual, enterprise and industry level.
It is a three month Program which includes two sessions, the first in Adelaide (three days) and the second in regional Port Lincoln (two days). In between the sessions participants are resourced to design and implement an industry project with the support of a team and an industry mentor. Project outcomes are presented to mentors, industry, community and political leaders at the final session.
The Program focuses on introducing participants to the industry issues and existing leaders through exposure at industry business dinners, an informative panel session and also through the mentoring role industry/business leaders participate in, specifically designed to support participants for the duration of the Program and beyond.
The specific sessions include;
- understanding your personal style and its impact on others,
- mapping your skills to understand your strengths and those that require further work,
- contributing to meeting outcomes,
- effective communication within your work team,
- presenting a professional image of the industry,
- exploring the characteristics of leadership,
- defining a personal definition of leadership, and
- planning and implementing a project at a farm or regional level.
Impact on Seafood is offered at a State level and is targeted at producers, although some service providers may be included in Programs.
